Madeline defends the walls

The Trilogy of Godfrey of Bastogne – The Griffin Legends is a dark fantasy saga centered on a war-torn world of knights, mythical creatures, and relentless conflict. The series explores themes of courage, sacrifice, and the human—and nonhuman—cost of war in a harsh, snow-covered northern landscape.

This illustration depicts Madeline defending the walls of Oslo Fortress during a brutal siege. She stands resolute atop the battlements, wielding her magic to unleash fireballs against waves of enemies, including orcs, northern warriors, and agile fauns climbing siege ladders to breach the defenses. Arrows fly, spears clash, and snow and blood are kicked up in the chaos of close-quarters combat. Madeline’s fiery spells illuminate the frozen battlefield, emphasizing her strength, leadership, and supernatural prowess, while the towering walls and snow-draped landscape highlight the scale and stakes of the conflict.

The project includes character design studies and fundamental painting tests developed as part of the concept art process. These exploratory works document costume and silhouette research, composition and perspective tests, and color and lighting studies, revealing the evolution of the illustration from concept to final piece.
