Urghz Quest

The Trilogy of Godfrey of Bastogne – The Griffin Legends is a dark fantasy saga set in a world of knights, mythical creatures, and relentless conflict. The series explores themes of courage, sacrifice, and the human—and nonhuman—cost of war across harsh, snow-draped landscapes and dense, perilous forests.

This illustration captures a tense forest skirmish where Urgz leads a group of orcs attempting to overwhelm a knight and his men. The scene conveys the chaos and desperation of battle: the knight and his soldiers fight valiantly but are clearly being pushed back, their defenses crumbling under the ferocity of the assault. Urgz, monstrous and imposing, dominates the battlefield with raw strength and cunning, while the dark forest environment amplifies the sense of danger, entrapment, and the unpredictability of war. Snow-dusted trees, broken branches, and scattered weapons emphasize the brutal struggle unfolding in this confined, shadowed terrain.

The project includes character design studies and fundamental painting tests developed as part of the concept art process. These exploratory works document silhouette exploration, composition and perspective studies, and color and lighting experiments, revealing the artistic decisions and evolution leading to the final illustration.
